                                                                      Midlothian  Classic  Wheels
                                                                             August  Newsletter

Hello  Classic  Wheelers !  I was reading thru a book of poetry the other day and came across one by
Elizabeth Barrett Jackson  that , as always , she was able to describe the current weather conditions we are
having . So I would like to relate it to you in her very beautiful and flowing verse . It goes like this : DARN – IT’
S HOT !!!
July  Events : Even with the heat , there were some fine shows . Hot as heck , but MCW still had 27 cars at
the Whataburger cruise-in . This is still holding out to be a lot of fun event . The Cruisers’ show at Sabor
Restaurant was good with around 50 plus entrants . That night I went to a Midnight Madness show in
Watauga that drew over 100 . The next week 45 brave souls came out to Uptown Village Mall and endured
the heat . Just wish the nachos had showed up ! Two good shows the last Saturday . First over 160 came
out to the State Wide Remodeling get together in Arlington . This draws a bunch due to the hugh give-a-
ways . That night a good crowd came out to the Fabulous 50’s Café Show .Joe’s Blue  34 received the
award as the top vote getter and will be the “ display “ car at the next one in August . MCW also had a cruise
thru the country on Sunday the 27th . We met Burt and Bobby  Barnett in Maypearl and he took us thru the
back roads to Italy . There we stopped at club sponsor Texas Best Smokehouse and  pigged out on some
very – very good B B Q . Everyone is still raving about the food plus the fact they gave everyone a 15%
discount .  They will do this anytime we want to come down , so we WILL do it again !!
Upcoming  Events :  MCW has already had 2 good events in August . As the 1st was on Friday , MCW held
their First Friday Cruise-In at Whataburger . Even with the heat 25 cars came in and had a very good time .
This is turning out to be a very good “ social “ gathering with everyone just going around and getting to know
each other . Not real sure , but believe a little Gearhead B S could be found also . Saturday night the 2nd ,
MCW hosted the second show of the year held at and sponsored by Vandergriff Honda . Going over there
we were a little concerned that the crowd would be small due to the 105 degree temp , but when we got
there , 20 cars were already waiting for us at 4:45 . This quickly turned into 70 with 5 or 6 coming by just to
see what was going on . What was going on was a very good show . Vandergriff came out with over
$500.00 in stereo equipment plus other give-a-ways . After a little battle with the cooker , Joe ( oh yes – and
Brian ) were able to get everyone fed with burgers and dogs . By the way , there is a new cooker already on
the lot ! Vandergriff was so impressed , they already have reserved November 1st for a third show . They
also promise to make it “ BIGGER AND BETTER “ This month , the cruise-in at Uptown Village is going to
the best yet . Since he has kind of “ screwed up “ the last 2 months , the manager of Matt’s WILL         BE
THERE , AND THE Nacho bar and drinks will be FREE !!! Also right after dark , the mall will have a fireworks
display , so spread the word for everyone to bring the kids !!  That is NOT all for August , so be sure and
check out the calendar . Also there  will be a monthly first Tuesday night show in Cedar Hill at Casa
Barajois which is in the Minyard’s shopping center on old Beltline  from 6 til 9 . VERY GOOD MEXICAN
FOOD !  Some of us went this week and really enjoyed it . Will get a group together in September .
Childrens  Home  Update :   Just a quick note of some things set for the Presbyterian Childrens Home in
the future . First on Sunday – September 14th – there will be a cook-out at the Waxahachie home . We will
leave Midlothian around 1 pm and go there and cook burgers and dogs . This kind of a “ cruise-in “ so bring
the classics . The date for the yearly Car & Bike Show has been set for October 25th from 11 to 3 .More
details in the months to come . Also the date for the Christmas Cruise has been set for December 14th .
The date is set in stone , just need to fine tune it , so keep an ear out in the coming months . We should get
the lists of kids names at the October show .
Meeting  Notes :  Very good turnout for this month !! Davie Childres , a new member , came by to meet
everyone . Sorry guys , but we now have another BUICK  in the club which should make Ted Phelps happy .
We also had a visit from a Rick Hamilton and his wife who are thinking about joining . Two more future
shows that will be set in stone in the next week were talked about . MCW has been asked , and we voted to
do so , to do a show for the Big Brothers and Sisters in Waxahachie again this year . We do know it will be
October 4th and held in the Sears parking lot in Waxahachie . Will let you know the rest of the details when
they are set . Also the people in Lancaster where MCW had a show in June has requested another one on
October 11th . Again details to be set next week . Pray for cooler DRY weather as MCW is going to be busy
in October and November !! A vote was also passed to order some calendars for give-a-ways . I received
some samples from a company and it was voted to order some quantities of each one . They will make
great give outs and are very inexpensive . Natalie and Corrinne both brought some very delicious deserts
for us . I think I will marry Nat for her cooking  as Hollis will not let Corrinne go . Except for the usual fun and
games , that covers the meeting . I don’t think I missed anything . Oh Yes – Natalie was at camp last week
and won a metal as the SOCIAL  BUTTERFLY . She was also in charge of the frogs . ( you need to hear the
story )
                                                                                 FUN  PART
Question : Why did Eliot Spitzers wife stand beside him when he confessed to stepping
                                             Outside his marriage ?
Answer : It qualifies her to run for president on a Democrat ticket

Statement :  A man is incomplete until he is married – then he’s really finished

                           “ I put my S O B of an ex-husband thru medical school  “ a blonde said
                           “ That’s nothing , I made my husband a millionaire “ a redhead replied
“ Really “ the blonde asked “ What was he before ? “
                           “ The redhead replied “ A Billionaire “

“ What do you like most about me ? “ a wife asked her husband “ My pretty
face or my sexy body ? “
“ I like your sense of humor “ he replied

A statement of fact : The only time politicians tell the truth is when they call each other liars

Two tipsy Irishmen were in a  cemetery searching for the oldest person buried there
“ Here’s a guy who was 145 when he died ! “ yelled one to the other
“ What was his name ? “ the other yelled back
The first one looks and yells “ Miles from Dublin ! “

Well that is it for tonight . Next up is the calendar . Print it out if taking it off the computer or  if by mail , post
the enclosed one where you will know where it is . Also for those of you that do not have e-mail , we do have
a phone committee . Sometimes we do plan things that are not on the calendar , or decide to go “ in mass “
to an event . If you want to be notified of these changes , let us know and we will add you to the call list . So
without futher ado .
Happy Trails To You and To Each Good Cruising !!!!  May  God  Bless  !!!!!!!!!!!
